How long has The Retirement Planning Group been in business?

The Retirement Planning Group has been in business since February 2004.

Is TRPG a fiduciary and what does "being a fiduciary" mean?

Yes, we are a fiduciary.

Yes, we are a fiduciary. Being a fiduciary means acting in a position of trust and confidence and carrying out responsibilities with the utmost care, honesty, and integrity. In a financial context, such as in the world of financial advisors or retirement planning, being a fiduciary means that TRPG is legally obligated to put the interests of its clients or beneficiaries above its own financial interests.

Is TRPG a Broker-dealer?

Nope! The Retirement Planning Group, LLC. is an independent RIA registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. We offer retirement planning, wealth management, financial planning services, tax planning, tax return prep and filing services, and Payroll and Bookkeeping services.

Does TRPG offer a free consultation or initial meeting?

Yes! In fact, we offer multiple free consultations so that you have multiple opportunities to feel comfortable with our Wealth Managers and your decision.

We start with an easy 10-minute call that we refer to as a Guidance Call.

You’ll talk directly to a Wealth Manager where you can share where you are headed. We’ll let you know if we think we can help you get there. And if you don’t know where you are going, that’s okay. We’ll guide you in the right direction. We’re here to understand your financial questions and get to know you better. Our primary objective during this initial consultation is to make you feel comfortable with our Wealth Managers.

If you think we can help you out, we’ll set up an Exploration Meeting.

At the Exploration Meeting, you can further share your concerns, and we’ll explore actionable ways to make those concerns go away. You share your hopes and dreams, and we’ll explore ways to help you achieve them. You’ll get to demo and test drive everything – we’ll start by building you a preliminary plan, demo our capabilities, and show you how we’ll keep you organized.

If we sound like a fit for you, then we’ll set the Launch Meeting.

At your Launch Meeting, we really dig into the details and start to uncover all the opportunities and directions you might not have considered. We’ll finish building out your plan from the Exploration Meeting, create custom solutions regarding tax and investment management, and begin the account opening and transfer process.

I don't live near any TRPG offices. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely! We serve clients nationwide using virtual meetings, conference calls, e-mails, secure file transfer, and an integrated suite of client service and financial planning tools. You do not need to be local to work with us.

Does TRPG sell any financial or investment products that earn commission(s)?

Never. All we’re selling is our passion for helping people create the financial well-being and confidence they need to live their best life. Not to mention our impeccable client service experience.

How often will I meet with my Wealth Manager?

Whatever suits you best.

Our approach involves setting up regular meetings that are tailored to your preferences. Your schedule is our priority. Rest assured, we don’t inundate our clients with constant updates every time the market experiences turbulence, which is quite frequent, or whenever the media highlights a new crisis, which seems even more frequent. Similar to how you engage with your doctor, we’re here whenever you have any concerns, questions, apprehensions, or simply wish to connect. For your convenience, we can arrange meetings in person, over the phone, or via web conferencing.

Will someone answer the phone when I call TRPG?

Absolutely – within business hours of course! We are dedicated to providing the best service and experience possible so you’ll never talk to a robot or an automated operator! Give us a call at (913) 498-8898 and see for yourself!

Sometimes I prefer texting over phone calls. Can I text my Wealth Manager or Client Relationship Manager?

Sure can! It’s all part of our commitment to treat our clients like individuals and adhere to their preferences!

Account Management

All about account transfers, management, and maintenance.

How will I transfer my current accounts to TRPG?

Every client has a dedicated Client Relationship Manager (CRM) who will assist in the account opening or transfer. They work closely with your Wealth Manager and will keep everyone inform throughout the process.

How long does it take for an account to transfer?

The timeframe for an account transfer will vary. Where the account is moving from will determine the action steps needed. Our awesome Client Relationship Managers (CRMs) will make sure the experience is seamless for you and will handle all the paperwork and keep the process moving.

Who do I call if I want to take out money? How long does it take?

Call your Client Relationship Manager (CRM) or Wealth Manager – we are here for YOU! Because your accounts are invested, a trade will be completed to generate cash, and then boom, it’s out the door to you per the instructions you provided to us. Plan on 3-5 business days.

Where do my statements go? How often do I get them?

The qualified custodian sends account statements on a quarterly basis. These are conveniently sent electronically to your email address on file.

Additionally, TRPG has a specific client portal through a software called Black Diamond which we will get you set up with during your client onboarding. These statements will provide an overview of your accounts under our management. At the end of each quarter, we will notify you that your statements are ready for viewing in your portal. You can also request a statement from us at any time.

Trading and Investments

Does TRPG manage investments?

Yes, we’ll take care of the daily management of your portfolio, execute trades, adjust your investments in response to market conditions, engage in tax-loss harvesting, and provide additional services as needed. We understand that life and priorities can change over time, often unexpectedly. When these changes occur, we will collaborate with you to adapt your strategy, ensuring that you continue to make progress toward your goals and live a fulfilling life.

Will I get help opening new investment accounts?

Our clients are busy and the last thing many of them want to do is mess around with paperwork. We’ll do all the work for you. We will complete 100% of the account forms and provide them to you for review and signature.

Where will my assets be held?

Clients’ assets are held at a qualified custodian like Charles Schwab or Fidelity.

How is my portfolio allocation created?
Who is selecting the securities used in my account?
What factors do you consider when you recommend an asset allocation?

Tax Planning and Tax Return Prep and Filing

Do you do tax return prep and filing?

Absolutely! We’ll prepare and file your tax return with the IRS on your behalf AND we will keep you updated every step of the way.

My tax situation is complex. Can you help me?

Absolutely! Our CPAs have experience with complex tax situations of varying degrees. 

How do your CPAs work with my entire financial picture?

At The Retirement Planning Group, tax is an ongoing yearlong consultative process where you get a dedicated tax consultant that will work with your Wealth Manager to evaluate a myriad of tax issues like maximizing long-term cap gains rate, tax-loss selling, QCD planning, charitable planning, optimizing incomes to qualify for ACA, Roth conversion analysis…the list goes on and on.

If I have multiple returns, can you help me with all of them?

You bet! In fact, we handle all tax returns for a lot of our clients from tax planning strategies to prep and filing. It’s just one less thing they have to worry about.

Do you do tax returns for businesses?

Sure do! We prepare Corporate Tax returns – S Corps, C Corps, Partnerships, LLCs – you name it, we can help.

We’ll even give you valuable insight into ways to structure compensation and maximize deductions to offset taxes owed to the IRS along the way.
