Meet Joshua Pickett

Joshua was born and raised in Shawnee, Kansas, where he still resides. His interest in accounting began in high school with an accounting class at De Soto High School, sparking a lifelong passion for the field. Excelling in mathematics, Joshua nearly completed his math credits for a Bachelor of Science degree before even graduating high school.

Joshua began his educational journey at Johnson County Community College, earning associate degrees in liberal arts and general sciences. He then pursued his bachelor’s degree at Park University, graduating early in the fall semester. This timing was strategic, as it aligned with the approaching tax season, helping him secure an internship at The Retirement Planning Group. It was during this internship that Joshua discovered his talent for taxes and his desire to minimize tax liabilities for clients. His newfound skills even helped his parents receive their first tax refund in years, solidifying his determination to help others achieve similar results.

After his internship concluded, Joshua was offered a full-time position as a Tax Associate at The Retirement Planning Group. He enjoys expanding his knowledge and skills while working with a supportive team. Joshua plans to further his education by obtaining a master’s degree and becoming a CPA, all with the goal of helping clients save as much as possible on their taxes.

Outside of work, Joshua is passionate about soccer, whether it’s outdoor, indoor, or futsal. Despite recent hip injuries requiring three procedures, he hopes to return to playing several times a week and putting together a team post-recovery. Additionally, Joshua enjoys video games and board games in his spare time. He often plays on his Super Nintendo, enjoying classics like Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World. His favorite game is Halo 3, which he continues to play, despite its 2007 release.
