John began his financial services career in 1979, selling life insurance right out of college. From the very beginning, he approached the business with the same faith, discipline, and optimism that continue to guide him today. Not long after, he celebrated his first big victory, marrying his wife, Christy, in 1980. She has been his biggest supporter ever since, offering encouragement, perspective, and what John calls “another bean for my pocket” every step of the way.

Early in his career, John built his success around a simple principle: the “10-3-1” rule. Make ten calls, set three appointments, and earn one client. To keep himself accountable, he carried ten beans in one pocket each morning and didn’t return home until all ten had been moved to the other. That small but powerful routine became more than a sales strategy; it became a philosophy about purpose, persistence, and gratitude that has shaped both his professional and personal life.

Over the years, John’s career evolved as he and his longtime business partner, Gib McEachran, built a fee-only advisory practice grounded in trust, education, and service. Their shared values eventually led them to join The Retirement Planning Group (TRPG), where John now serves as a Senior Wealth Manager. At TRPG, he continues to do what he loves most, helping clients find confidence in their financial future while mentoring the next generation of advisors.

Faith, family, and friendship remain at the core of John’s life. He and Christy live on their farm in North Carolina, where they enjoy the simple pleasures of the outdoors: Working the land, riding the tractor, and spending time with their grandchildren. For John, the “10-3-1” mindset still holds true, not because he has to, but because it reminds him that with purpose and perseverance, every day is an opportunity to make a difference.
